Macabre Couture - Style Inspired By Maleficent

If I were the personal stylist for the "Mistress of all Evil", she would be draped in leather and feathers, seen in fashion designer Kristian Aadnevik's darkly beautiful gowns. She would step on her foes in diabolical style in an aptly named and designed shoe by Gianvito Rossi called "Inferno". She would be adorned in jewels of emerald and amethyst set in diamonds and black gold.

Kristian Aadnevik's collections give me the shivers. They are what my dreams are made of. According to his website: "the label’s defining themes are blend of opulence, sensuality and gloom" which to me, is a gorgeous blend of regality, rock n' roll and sinister sexiness - perfect for an elegant vamp or villainess. I only just discovered him recently and is now instantly my favourite couture designer, as Gianni Versace was when I was a teenager. His Fall/Winter 2014-2015 Ready-To-Wear line makes my heart stop with its jewel-toned hues, velvet, majestic ornamental lace, goddessly lengths, and emphasis on the female form. I want to live in a castle and wear these dresses everyday. Here are some of my favourites:

Fire is a common motif in Gianvito Rossi's footwear designs, like in his "Inferno" collection from Spring/Summer 2014. I prefer the bootie for Maleficent because the serpentine black flames are simply more badass.

And of course, we cannot forget the horns - but that is a Maleficent staple ;)

OOTD - Doll Heart

                                                               Dress - Heart of Haute

I love a simple dress and ballet flats on a casual day doing errands and taking my daughter to the park. Don't be deceived by thinking this looks like too much effort for such tasks; the Monique dress by Haute of Haute is comfortable and elegant all at once. Made of a light-weight cotton and classicly structured, I am just as comfortable as anyone else wearing yoga pants and fleece ;) The Monique comes in a huge spectrum of prints and colours and are easy to get addicted to (I have 4 now). I also love Russian folkloric imagery, so the vividly charming matryoshka print was essential to my wardrobe!

OOTD - Best Sunday Dress

                                                                  Sunday, June 22

                                                      Dress - Paper Doll Productions
                                                            Necklace - Modcloth

I am definitely a dress girl, and can rejoice now that the weather is nice enough that I can wear them without covering up in a jacket or cardi. The Our Lady Guadalupe print dress by Paper Doll Productions is one of my favourite summer dresses. It couples feminine simplicity in the design with gorgeous and vibrant colours. Even a heretic like me couldn't resist its beauty.

It is a quality light cotton, which makes it perfect for hot days. The straps are adjustable and accented with little black bows as they meet the the bodice. The black satiny belt is attached to the dress, but I have put other belts over it if I want some variety. The ruffled hem is the perfect finish.

To match the roses and red tones on the dress, I wore the  Retro Rosie red rose necklace from Modcloth. The resin rose dangles from a dainty gold chain, which is surprisingly not as flimsy as it looks. The chain also coordinates well with the rich golden frames bordering the portraits of the Virgin Guadalupe.
