My First Post, Featuring the Lovely Lorelei

Channeling the timeless glamour of Marilyn Monroe, the Lorelei dress by PinUp Girl Clothing, is based on the dress that she wore as Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Mixing business with va-va-voom, this dress is feminine yet has a powerful and a bit of a dangerous edge to it. I’d personally wear this if I were an assassin or the ruler of a country, so you will definitely turn heads and drop jaws if you wore this to the office or out on the town ;)

I bought the Lorelei in 2012 during PinUp Girl Clothing’s (a.k.a PUG) epic and hugely anticipated Black Friday sale. I chose navy as a sophisticated alternative to all my black dresses.

The Lorelei has a body worshipping silhouette as the stretch bengaline fabric works its usual magic by embracing all of your curves while smoothing out any bumps. This is a common phenomenon with most PUG dresses. The bodice is lined with satiny stretch charmeuse, adding to the quality and comfort. I love the details in the design: the sophisticated turned up cuffs, the kick pleats (for its cuteness and functionality - makes walking up and down the stairs in a wiggle dress a breeze), bolero-like effect of the sleeves, but most of all, I am a sucker for the Vampirella-esque collar! There’s a regally nocturnal aesthetic to this style of collar that I can’t resist. It is a bit difficult to get it to stay up for a long period of time. For those who’d prefer a more subtle look, you can also wear the collar down.

I am 5’8” and the hem hits right below my knee in Medium. It is quite stretchy, so some have sized down, but I preferred my usual size to allow for some, ahem, “contingency”. Always follow the individualized size chart for each PUG garment and your own comfort levels for a successful fit.

The belt has actual grommets, which is much better than the slide belt which seems to be a frequently-used style these days on vintage reproduction dresses. There are also no loop holes, which is a bonus. This way, the belt can be placed at your natural waistline or wherever it flatters you the most. This versatility is perfect for long and short-waisted ladies, and any body type, really.

This cranberry and cream toned Bradbury necklace by Eldorado Club Jewelry is an elegant combination of rich and neutral, which compliments the shade of the dress. I also wore leopard print pumps to bring out the cream accents in the necklace and add some visual interest. In my world, leopard print can be a neutral!

The Lorelei in navy is a few shades darker in real life than it is on the website. In the first run, this dress also came in plum (a drop dead gorgeous jewel tone – but I rationalized that I already have another dress in a similar colour), rust, and grey with black polka dot. These sold out quickly, especially during a stream of sales at the time!

Navy and plum have been restocked, but currently, rust and grey are not on their website anymore. There have been 2 new colours introduced for the Fall/Winter, which are a deep forest green and classic black.

Looking like an executive bombshell, you will have a commanding and sexy presence wherever you go in this dress.
